    Glory Be To Allah!!

As-Salaam alaikum, In ayat 36 of Surat Ya-Sin of the Holy Qur'an, we read it where Allah Ta'ala says:-- ''Glory [be] to Allah, who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind; And (other) things of which they have no knowledge.'' (36:36) The mystery in creation and pairing runs through all creation.... of dates, trees, crops and fruits. Note how Allah Ta'ala made them of various tastes, smells, forms, shapes; different leaves of trees, different branches, lights and flowers, and the different forms of its fruits: some grow individually and others combined. And even among ourselves (mankind), come children-- male and female; and other things of which they/we have no knowledge. For in the sea, there are marvels that we have no knowledge of. Glory be to Allah, the Creator... who is abundant in His creation and invention.

    Know Your Enemy.

As-Salaam alaikum, In the Holy Qur'an, Allah, the Most High and the Merciful, tells us that:-- ''Verily, Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents, that they may become companions of the blazing fire.'' (Surat Fatir- 35:6) Since Satan or Iblis is our avowed enemy, we should fight him, avoid and treat him as such... ie as a first class enemy. We can do this with the help of Allah, Glorified and Exalted Lord of the Universe. In so doing, it will aid us if we know Iblis well enough, so that in fighting him we adopt the right tactics and/or strategy. So, I bring to your attention the following important information about our enemy Iblis, may Allah curse him:-- Name: Iblis Town: The hearts empty of Allah's Zikr (Remembrance) Permanent Residence: The Hellfire Rank: A first class Disobedient Province: Places where Allah's Name is not mentioned Capital: False hopes Place of gathering: The markets Logo: Hypocrisy is the best manner His likes: People who are heedless about mentioning Allah His bothers: That someone asks Allah, Most High, for Forgiveness His home: The toilets and bathrooms His services: Enjoining the evil and adorning it Religion: Kufr (Disbelieving) His traps: Women His hobbies: Misguiding and seduction His main enemies: The Muslims Best of deeds according to him: Homosexuality and lesbianism What makes him cry: Lots of Sujud (Prostration) to Allah Ta'ala Destination: Hellfire. For more details on this, see: ''Man's Protection Against Jinn and Satan'', by Wahid Abdussalam Bali. Best Regards.

    Remember Allah Always.

As-Salaam alaikum, 'O you who believe! Remember Allah! Continue to mention Him without limit, before sunrise and before sunset. He is the One who encourages, appreciates and supports you all, and replaces darkness and tyranny with Divine Light.'' So, we have to remember our Lord/Creator as much as we can... Praise Him before and after work (before sunrise and before sunset). Today, who remembers Allah when leaving or entering their house?...Some do but not many; that is why it is said that everything is perishable except Zikrullah, which goes with you to Paradise. Zikrullah is necessary for us, because it will throw away ghaflah or heedlessness from us. Whenever we forget to remember Him, Jallah Wa 'Alaa, then we are heedless and it is said that we have to guard and/or be careful of the moment of ghafala as in that moment Shaytan will come! You will be an easy target for Shaytan when you are in a state of heedlessness. Zikr is the key for happiness, the light of souls and our backbone in the journey on the Way to Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

Food and Hunger In Islam: Mystical Consideration.

As-Salaam alaikum, In his book, 'Futuhat al-Makkiyyah', Sayyadi Ibn Arabi (1165-1240), may Allah be Merciful to him, devoted a whole chapter entitled the Presence of the Nourisher (Hadrat al-muqit), in which Sheikh Sahl Ibn Abdullah al-Tustari's ideas on this subject were elaborated. He mentions a telling incident:-- ''He [Sahl] was asked about nourishment, to which he replied 'Allah'! It was then said to him, 'We are asking about food,' to which he [again] replied, 'Allah'. Then the questioner said: 'I am asking you about the nourishment of bodies or persons.' Sahl [then] knew that the questioner was ignorant of what he intended and so Sahl descended [to his level] by an answer with another breath, different from the first breath... then Sahl said to him, 'What have you to do with them', meaning the bodies, 'leave the houses to their Builder. If He wills He will destroy them and if He wills He will fill them.' Sahl thus retained his first answer but in another form. The house is filled through its dweller and nourishment [of the body] is Allah just like he said the first time, except that [now] the questioner was satisfied with the second answer.'' A slightly modified version of this event is cited in Abu Talib al-Makki's book, 'Nourishment of Hearts (Qut al-Qulub)', where al-Makki writes:-- ''Sahl was asked about nourishment. He replied, 'his nourishment is Allah Most High.' The man said, 'I asked about his bodily sustenance.' He replied, '[it is] the Remembrance of Allah.' The man said, 'I asked about food.' He replied: 'his meal is knowledge.' The man [then] said again: 'I meant food for the body.' He said: 'What do you have to do with the body? Leave the body to the One who took charge of it in pre-eternity, He will take charge of it now.' What all this establish is that austerity regarding food is not rooted in asceticism for its own sake, but in a mystical vision that identified Allah Ta'ala not just as the Provider of nourishment, but the nourishment itself. And as observed by Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazzali in his 'Ihya Ulumuddin', ''Wisdom and Knowledge lie in hunger whereas disobedience and ignorance lie in satiation.''

    Trust In Allah (Tawakkul).

As-Salaam alaikum, ''And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, He shall suffice him'' (Talaq 65:3) ''And in Allah let the believers put all their trust'' (Ibrahim 14:11) In the Hadith also, it is related that the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said: ''There shall enter Paradise of my community 70,000 without reckoning: those are they that neither make auguries, nor brand themselves, nor use spells, but trust their Lord.'' (Bukhari) Trust in itself and its manifestation in the heart, is this: to believe in Allah and to rely on Him, taking rest and assurance in Him as regards all that He has guaranteed; to expel from the heart all anxiety over the affairs of this world, and the means of sustenance, and every matter of which Allah has Himself taken charge; and to know that of every matter of which man stands in need, be it of this world or the next, Allah is the ruler and provider, for none but Allah can withhold it from him. In trust, all desire and trepidation must depart from the heart, with all fear, if these be connected with other than Allah: for a man must have confidence in Him, and a full knowledge and firm conviction that Allah's hand is outreached towards him, to provide him with all that he seeks- for no good shall befall him save by Allah's Command and no evil shall overtake him save with His leave.

Most Dignified Ones In The Community.

As-Salaam alaikum, Iyadh bin Ghanam narrated that Allah's Messenger, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-- ''I was informed by the Heavenly hosts of Angels that the most dignified among my followers are people who rejoice in public when they ponder the Vastness of Allah's all-compassing Mercy and Compassion, and they weep privately when they contemplate the rigorous punishment He reserved for the sinners and the deniers of the truth. They sit in His Blessed Masjid (mosques) morning and evening- worshipping Him and celebrating His Praises inwardly; and they implore Him with their tongues outwardly with reverence and awe. They pray to Him with their hands raised as well as lowered... they take little from people, and yet it bears heavily on their hearts. They walk barefooted, humble, unpretentious, and unnoticed just like ants, without finery; and they are free of self-adulation. They walk with dignity and serenity, and they rise to the nearest of their Lord through their link to His Messenger. They wear the garment of good conduct and follow the clear proof. They read the Qur'an regularly, take their daily guidance from it, and they happily make the necessary personal sacrifices to meet its requirements. Almighty Allah has surrounded them with distinguished witnessing angels and faithful guardians, and He has illumined their faces with effulgence as a sign of His blessings upon them and as a demonstration of His satisfaction with them.'' Allahu Akbar!! May Allah Ta'ala include us among these Servants of His, ameen. Real Imaan..

As-Salaam alaikum, Real Imaan (faith) in Islam is to love the Noble Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, more than you love yourself. In verse/ayat 80 of Surat Nisa'i of the Holy Qur'an, we have it stated:-- ''He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah.'' (4:80) This is as if Allah Ta'ala is saying to Muslims, the World, the Universe and everything He created, 'If you love whom I love, you will be accepted.' It is only with adaab (good manners) and discipline that we can approach Allah's Divine Presence. Even with this, it has to be through obedience. And there is no obedience without love, so whoever love Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, loved Allah, which is why He said:-- ''Say: (O Muhammad), if you [really] love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful'' (3:31) This ayat shows us the importance of loving the Prophet. Here, we are not speaking about obligations, which we have to observe, we have to do, but some people say, Don't love or praise too much as that is Shirk. Hadith: ''You will not be a true believer until you love me more than your children and parents and all creation'' (Bukhari and Muslim) Who is first, your mother or father, your brother and sister or the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam? That is it! Allah Ta'ala is saying, 'I want you to love the Prophet more than anyone'!!

Explaining Ayat 190/191 Of Surat Al-i-Imran.

As-Salaam alaikum, Ayat 190-191 0f Surat Al-i-Imran of the Holy Qur'an reads:-- ''Assuredly in the creation of the Heavens and the Earth and in the alternation of Night and Day- there are signs for possessors of cores. Those who remember [celebrate the Praises of] Allah, standing, sitting and lying down on their sides; and reflect upon the creation of the heavens and the earth.'' (3:190/191) Those possessed of a 'Core' or lubb, are those who have reached the stage where their remembrance of Allah is unbroken and are seldom forgetful of their Lord, whatever they amy be doing. Only then are they able to recognize the signs in the creation of the heavens and earth as signs, that is, as indiactors of higher realities and ultimately of the Highest Reality of all, the Absolute Lord of Creation.

    Something On The Human Soul.

As-Salaam alaikum, In his 'Maktubat Imam Rabbani of Mujaddid Alf Sani' detailing Letters of Sheikh Ahmad Sirhindi to various mureed and others of note, the Sheikh made a very incisive disclosure about he Soul that ''because the Soul is finer than everything [because it is lighter than hydrogen, which is the lightest form of matter, even lighter than an electron], because it is not even matter, it takes the state, shape and color of whatever it unites with. Because it forgot about itself, it forgot its knowledge of Allah Ta'ala, which it had formally when it was in its own world, in its own grade. It became ignorant and unaware. Like the nafs, it darkened with the darkness of ignorance. Sine Allah is very merciful, He sent Prophets, and through them, He called the Soul to Himself and commanded it not to follow, not to obey the nafs, which is its sweetheart and darling. If the soul, obeying this command, disobeys the nafs and turns its face away from it, it will be saved from perdition. Otherwise, if it does not raise its head as if it prefers to stay with the nafs and not leave the world, it will lose its way and its happiness.''

    Consider Ayat 17/18, Surat Qaf..

As-Salaam alaikum, In ayat 17-18 of Surat Qaf of the Holy Qur'an, Allah Ta'ala says:-- ''Behold, two (guardian angels) [are] appointed to learn/record (his doings)... Learn (and note them), one sitting on the right and one on the left. Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, Ready (to note it)." ( Qaf- 50:17/18) We are reminded that each and everyone of us, human beings, is assigned 2 recording Angels (Kiraman-Katibeen) to record his/her deeds-- good or bad, performed by each bodily organ. So exceedingly efficient is their perception that anything heard, observed, spoken or whispered, slightest movement of any of the body organs is instantly recorded... just as an efficient video recorder does not miss any sound or movement. So, let us Beware!!

Ever Thought Of Ayat 107, Surat Anbiyaa?

As-Salaam alaikum, In ayat 107 of Surat Anbiyaa the Holy Qur'an (21:107), referring to His Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, Allah Ta'ala says:-- ''Wama arsalnaka illa Rahmatan Lil-alameen... We sent you not, but as Mercy for all creatures.'' His Lord called him 'rahmatan lilalameen.' What does this mean? Let us use a simile to clearly understand this. When you go to a generous person: Congressman, King, President or Queen, when you seek or they give you something, they are generous and they give you everything they can...generosity. Allah Ta'ala is al-Kareem... He is so generous that when He wants to give, He will not give in limits. When He gave Sayyadina Muhammad to be rahmat (an), from one of His Beautiful Names ar-Rahman ar-Raheem, He dressed him from that mercy that Allah gave him through the manifestation to him as His servant... meaning He made for him everything possible according to Allah's Greatness, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Not according to human greatness. A King might give, a queen might give according to the level of their generosity. But they don't and cannot give what Allah gives. So Allah gave to Sayyadina Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, according to His level of generosity... without restriction. This means that whatever the Prophet asks he will get. Remember, he said:-- ''I am the leader of the children of Adam, and this is without boasting''. (Tirmidhi, Muslim, Abu Dawud) From this hadith, it is as if the Prophet says: 'O Allah give them to me'..' Do you think if the Prophet says on the Day of Judgement ''give them to me'' Allah will say no? Why then is he rahmatan lil-alameen? Allah will give him what he asks, in keeping/accordance to His full Generosity, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

Stick To The Sunnah and Connect With Allah.

As-Salaam alaikum, The Sunnah is//refers to the Commands, prohibitions, sayings, actions and tacit approvals of the Noble Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam. Allah Ta'ala, says in the Holy Qur'an, in clarifying the nature of the Beloved Prophet's behaviour:-- ''Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray, nor does he speak out of desire- it is naught but Revelation that is revealed.'' (Surah Najm 53:2-4) and ''Certainly you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for the one who hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.'' (Surah Ahzab 33:21) Thus we, Muslims, should model ourselves upon this perfect exemplar, imitating him as much as we can, both in his character and his mode of action. And since the Prophet is ''CLOSER TO THE BELIEVERS THAN THEIR [OWN] SELVES'' (33:6), it can be said that he is indeed the believer's alter ego. Sayyadi Abu Hamid al-Ghazzali (d. 1111), may Allah be Merciful to him, wrote of the true Muslim as one who ''imitates the Messenger of Allah in his goings out and his comings in, his movements and his times of rest, the manner of his eating, his deportment, his sleep and his speech. So a man should sit while putting on his trousers and stand while putting on his turban, start with the right foot when putting on his shoes and, when cutting his nails, begin with the forefinger of the right hand...'' Indee, the Sunnah of the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, provides not only a framework but also, as it were, a network of channels into which the believer's will enters and through which it flows smoothly... both guided and guarded. The Sunnah is the application of the Qur'anic blueprint to align oneself with Divine Order... Stick to it in all you do. it is the practical confirmation of proclamations of loving Allah: ''Say: If you love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful'' (3:31) Rejecting the Sunnah is a rejection of Allah, majestic is His Majesty: ''Say: Obey Allah and the Messenger, but if they turn back, then surely Allah does not love the unbelievers.'' (3:32) Indeed, it is in acceptance and obedience of the Beloved Messenger, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, that one can hope to find salvation: ''And obey Allah and the Messenger, that you may be shown Mercy.'' (3:132).

Name of Majesty: Zikr Ism Zaati.

As-Salaam alaikum, ''Say: Allah! Then leave them to their plunging and their playing.'' (6:91) In the Mufeed ar-Rawi of Sheikh Sidi Mustafa Ma;al-Aynayn, from Ibn Jarir in his commentary on the Holy Qur'an there is: ''....he would say, wanting the murid to confine himself to invocation of the Single Name during his travelling the Way, 'It occurs in tradition that when the worshipper says ''Allah'', there arises from within him a shaft of light, which spreads out on the horizons, then rises to the height of the Throne, filling the cosmos completely so that Allah says to it, ''Stop''! It says, ''By Your Glory and Majesty! I will not stop until You forgive the one who called on this Name.'' Then He replies, ''By My Glory and Majesty, I vowed to Myself before I created the world- I only set it moving on the tongue of My Slave because I have already forgiven him.'' Allahu Akbar! Shedding Our Human Characteristics.

As-Salaam alaikum, Part of the teachings of our Sheikh, the late Maulana Sheikh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani (q), is that without the skin all human beings are the same. And even anatomy establishes that without skin, all human beings are the same-- their skeleton, muscles, lips, eyes, everything except probably, height/length. When skin covers the body, then identity comes forth- you become Sheikh Junaid, Dr. this, Mr. that, Professor John and so on... When we shed the skin, we become simply general human beings... no more identity. Having an identity and/or flouting it will take us to the lowest level; whereas the lower we get in dunya, the higher we get up in spiritual levels. The Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-- ''Whoever humbles himself before Allah, Allah raises him up'' (Musnad al-Shihab) The question arises, how do we shed our human characteristics? how do we shed our skin? One of the ways is through fasting. When we fast in Ramadan, we shed our human characteristics. Our body likes to eat, drink, sleep, enjoy in halal ways, but we cannot do all this as far as we are fasting. When fasting, we fold away characteristics of the body and the ego and go closer to the Divine Presence; we get closer to some kind of Sacred Valley... a Pure and Perfect environment.

    About Anger..

As-Salaam alaikum, Reported by Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleasewd with him, the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-- ''The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but the strong man is in fact the one who controls himself in a fit of rage.'' (Bukhari and Muslim; Riyad-us-saliheeen, chapter 75) People are impressed by physical power, but the real strength is in that one who keeps his or her anger under control when provoked. So, be strong from that perspective.

    Wonders Of The Human Heart.

As-Salaam alaikum, As observed by Sayyadi Muhyi al-Din Muhammad Ibn Ali Ibn al-Arabi (A.H 560-1165), in his famous 'Futuhat al-Makkiyyah', when Allah created ''your body, He placed within it a Ka'aba, which is your heart. He made this temple of the heart the noblest of houses in the person of faith (mu'min). He informed us that the Heavens, in which there is the Frequented House (al-bayt al-ma'mur), and the earth, in which there is the [physical] Ka'ba, do not encompass Him and are too confined for Him, but He is encompassed by this heart in the constitution of the believing human. What is meant by 'encompassing' is knowledge of Allah.'' Here, Ibn Arabi, may Allah be pleased with him, is of course referring to the famous hadith-qudsi, the words of Allah upon the tongue of the Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, which he often quotes: 'Neither My heavens nor My earth encompass Me but the heart of My believing servant does encompass Me.' This indicates some of the most essential teachings on the nature of the heart: that nothing in the external world- high or low- can contain True Divinity, that is to say, nothing which we can experience through our senses (which is the earth), and nothing which we can imagine in our minds, however lofty, elevated and glorious, (which is heaven), can begin to measure up to that which is unlimited Reality, Being itself. Allah is only known (and loved) within, in the heart of the one who has faith..imaan.
