786 Read and Tremble 92

Today it is instantly remarked for a person who delays the returning of an entrusted thing or debt, that he/she is a 'usurper.' Mind you! The speaker of such words is entitled to punishment for 'backbiting' or slander.

Punishment for 'Backbiting'

Our sweet sweet Master (salAllahoAlaihe waSallam) declares, "During the night of Ascension ('Meraj') I passed by a group who were tearing off their faces and chests with bronze nails, I inquired, O Jibraeel! Who are these people? He answered, These people used to backbite and used to calumniate them. "Shaiif Vol1 2. Pegs: 313)

Punishment for Slander

The person who slanders a Muslim (e.g. says something about him which is not present in the Muslim person) will be kept by Allah azzawajal in"Rad-ghatul Khabaal" until his punishment ends. ("Rad-ghatuil Khabaal' is a place in Hell where the blood and pus of the inmates of Hell gets accumulated.)

Read this epistle throughout and practice methods to refrain from backbiting for protecting yourself from the dreadful punishment of Hell.

From "Sag-e-Madina* Mohammed llyas Attar Qadiri Razavi tlo the 'fragrant flowers' meaning the overseers/ members of the Central Board of Dawat-e-Islami, overseers of entire boards, members, officials, Muballegheen. Entire Islami brothers and Islami sisters, a Salaam, humble and restless in longings for boosting fear of Allah azzawajal and profusely illuminating hearts with the love of Mustafa (salAllaho Alaihe waSallam).

Mahabbat Main Apnee guma Ya Ilahee!

Na Paoon main Apna Pata Ya Ilahee!

Tere Khauf Se Tare Dar Se Hamesha

Main Tharthat Rahoon Kanpta Ya Ilahee!

Mere Dil Se Duniya Ki Ulfat Mita De

Bana Aashiq-e-Mustafa(salAllaho Alaihe waSallam) Ya Ilahee!

While writing these words Aah! I lie very far away from Madina Munawwarah. In Madina-e-Munawwarah it's about 3:21 hours in the night and 5:21 in Pakistan. Grieved and dejected, pen in hand. I give a manuscriptual knock at the courts of you gentlemen. These days here, stormy winds are blowing and they frighten the heart. Sigh! Sigh! Old age, in pursuit keeps approaching with gaping eyes, and is announcing the message of death. But 'the baser self' (Nafs-e-Ammarah) goes on advancing in headstrongness. Lest, a fierce and rushing gush of wind put off the tamp of my lifel O Maula azzawajal! The lamp of life is certainly going to burn itself out. May the light of my Faith (imaan) always remain illuminated! O Allah azzawajal bring me out of the quagmire of sins. Grace !.... Grace ! ...... Grace !

Allah azzawajal, Allah azzawajal Ke Nabee Se

Fariyad Hai Nafs Ki Badee Se

Din Bhar Khelon Mein Khaak Udaee

Laaj Aaayee Na Zarron Ki Hansee Se

Shab Bhar Sone Hee Se Ga-raz Thee

Taaron Ne Hazar Dant Peese

Imaan Pe Behtar Maut O Nafs

Teri . Napak Zindagee Se

Allah Azzawajal Kunwen mein Khud Gira Hoon

Apnee Nalish Karoon Tujhee Se

As for now the matter which rendered restless is, 'The destructions of backbiting.'

Madani narrative:

It is stated on KHAZAINUL Irian Sharif's page No: 823, Sweet Sweet Master of Madina, Mustafa(salAllaho Alaihe waSallam) whenever embarked on Jehad or a Journey he would team up one poor Muslim with two rich Muslims so that the poor person would serve his rich companions and they in turn would provide him with food and water, In this way each one of them could meet his needs. Once on such an occasion Hazrat Sayyeduna Salman (Allah be pleased with him) had been accompanied with two persons. One day he fell asleep and failed to prepare food, and so his two companions send him to the court of Rasullah (salAllaho Alaihe waSallam) to ask for food. The servant and (Khadim-e-Matbakh), meaning the supervisor of the kitchen, was Hazrat Sayyeduna Osama (Allah be pleased with him). He had no food left with him and so said that he did not have anything When Hazrat Sayyeduna Salman (Allah be pleased with him) went and told this to his two companions, they remarked, "Osama (Allah be pleased with him) has acted miserly, "When later they arrived in the presence of Rasulullah(salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam), The Master (salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam), stated, "I see the hue of flesh in your mouths." They pleaded, "We haven't eaten flesh." The Master (salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam) declared, "You have backbitten and whoever backbites on a Muslim, has eaten the flesh of a Muslim."

Almighty Allah Says:

Translation from Kanzul Imaan : And do not spy and do not backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Certainly you would hate it.

The Refulgence (Nooraniyat) of Namaz, Rozah was lost:

Once upon a time, when two persons observing fast (Roza) completed their Namaz-e-Asr, The Master (salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam) ordered, "Both of you. do Wudhu and repeat your Namaz. complete your fasting (Rozah} and the next day observe a 'Qadha' fast (Rozah) for today's fast," They pleaded "RasulAllah (salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam) for what reason was this order?" [informing about the unknown(Ghaib)], He (salAllaho alaihe waAlayhi wasallam) declared, "You have backbitten on that (certain) person." (Baihaqi Shareef)

Where have my virtues gone?:

On the Day of Judgement the Human will witness the empty register of his virtues and will exclaim, "I had done so and so virtues, where have they gone?" It will be stated, "These have been vanquished because of the backbiting you had done." (Targheeb)

Nowadays mother, father and children, brother and sister, husband and wife, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, father-in-law and son-in-law, sister-in-law (brother's wife) and sister-in-law, in fact all of the family and household, even teacher and pupil, employer and employee, businessman and customer, officer and labourer, ruler and subject, a majority of all Muslims concerned with religious and worldly affairs are in the terrible grip of backbiting. Alas! None of our meetings are generally devoid of backbiting. In spite of accepting backbiting as a sin of highest degree, Gunah-e-Kabirah, till now we have not been able to make up our minds for abstaining from it. The act of backbiting brings out a particular stench.

Previously when anyone used to backbite, people came to know because of the foul smell. But now There exists such abundance of backbiting that although all around, the emissions of this foul smell keep gushing out we simply don't smell it, because our nose has becoming habitual (full) of this. Take This in the sense that when a gutter is being cleaned a common man cannot stand there because of the bad smell, but the sweeper does not feel any thing because his nose has had become habitual (full) of foul smell. I Swear to Allah azzawajal backbiting is extremely destructive. Because of this backbiting itself, today most homes are existing battle-grounds. Amongst families and fraternity, localities and bazaars and among all grades of commoners or gentry, in fact even among the people with sentiments for service of the Sunnahs, the damned walls of hatred exist because of this backbiting. Alas! Alas! Alas! After death, how will the fragile body bear the dreadful (Azab) punishment for backbiting?

Nails off Bronze :

Our Sweet Sweet Master (salAllaho Alaihe waAhlayhi wa Sallam) declares, "During The night of Ascension ('Meraj') ! passed by a group who were tearing off their faces and chests with bronze nails, I inquired, O Jibraeel! Who are these persons? He answered," 'These persons used to backbite on people and used to calumniate them. (Sunan AbiDawood Volume: 2 Page 313)

Monkey of Hell:

Hazrat Saiyyedna Hatim-e-Asam (may Allah be pleased with him) states, "A backbiter and tell-tale, both will be monkeys to Hell. A liar will be the dog of Hell and the jealous will be the swine of Hell"

Definition of backbiting:

'To speak behind his back, such words for one's Muslim brother. (Dead or alive) about which if he heard, he would feel offended." And it is said to be 'backbiting1, only if 'that' quality exists in the person, if in spite of the absence of that' quality, it is remarked so about him, than this is another sin of highest degree 'Gunah-e-Kabirah; namely slander (Bohtaan),

Allah's most exalted Prophet salAllaho Alaihe waAhlayhi wa Sallam) queried, "Do you know what backbiting is?" It was pleaded, "Allah and his Prophet salAllaho Alaihe waAhlayhi wa Sallam) know better." He commanded, "(Back biting is) you speak about your brother in a manner he dislikes." It was pleaded. "What if that quality is present in the person?" He declared, "The quality that you speak about, if exists in him, than you have backbitten on him. And if 'it' doesn't exist, you have calumniated him." (Musnad-e-lmam Ahmed Volume: 2 page 384 )

Aah! The carelessness of the tongue!!! Go on contemplating the above words! Every day what- what do you speak out about your Muslim brothers and so many times do you become the perpetrator of backbiting and slandering, in turn becoming entitled to the dreadful punishment (Azab) of Allah the almighty.

Think before you speak:

Yes, without the permission of the Islamic Jurisprudence (Shariah), if any word or the interpretation of any of the word from the above 141 and more examples is uttered for anyone behind 'his/her' back, and if the remanded quality exists in the person, then it is backbiting otherwise it is Slander, (Thousands of words of backbiting and Slander exist in various different languages, I have presented only more than 141 exemplary specimens) It is but apparent that normally a person lakes delight in hearing proficiency only; no one likes derogatory talk about one's own self. And the above presented examples most often are based on words of impeachment. Now you yourself give it some thought that if any of the things mentioned in the above examples does exist in you, and of a person mentions it behind your back, would you feel bad or happy on coming to know about it? If you feel bad about it, than another person too can fee] bad about ill Thai is why, whenever any word about any kind of fault, weakness, any unreasonable habit or sin starts approaching your tongue, immediately become on guard, lest some word of yours may toss you over into hell. First contemplate, 'whether this word or statement, uttered by me for that person, if is heard by him, will make him happy or offend him? If your heart answers that 'he/she’ will feel bad (offended), then take notice that it is backbiting and so stay aloof from indulging in such talk without the permission of the 'Shariah'.

A stage of anxiety:

For those, who in spite of backbiting, claim, 'I am not backbiting, I am only informing you, but don't tell anyone'. For those who say that, 'this' isn't backbiting but fact, hence, is stated on the page no. 151, part: 16 of Bahar-e-Shariat, 'Fageeh Abul (Allah be pleased with him) states, ''Backbiting is of 4 kinds, (1) Infidelity (Kufr) : this involves The stage when a person is backbiting, and he is told not to backbite and he reacts by answering ’This isn't backbiting, I am truthful.’ This person has proclaimed the permitted (Halal), to be an absolute forbidden act ! [The speaker will be an Infidel (Kafir) only when he is aware about the definition of backbiting and knows that it is 'absolute forbidden'. "HARAM-E-QATAI”]
