Glory To The One and Only Lord...

As-Salaam alaikum, The second verse/Ayat of Surat Ikhlas of the Holy Qur'an (112:2) reads:-- "ALLAHU SAMAD". Now, if Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah, is Samad, then we are the Samadiyya of Allah. The Samadiyya of Allah comes in 2 aspects, namely:-- (1) His Absolute Independence from all things. (2) The Absolute Dependence of all things on Him. Therefore when you lift up that glass/cup to drink water, it is only by and through the Mercy of Allah [as Rahman and Raheem] that your thirst can be quenched. This is the reality of things and the wisdom of our reciting the 'Basmala [Bismillahi Rahman, Raheem], when eating, drinking, driving etc The way we understand and believe affects the way we behave and act. Does the fire have the power to burn or not? When Prophet Ibrahim, alaihis-Salaat Was-Salaam, was placed into the fire by his enemies, what happened? It became Bardan Wa Salaman, a place of security and tranquility.... because Alllah Ta'ala Creates, Controls and gives effect every single second, to every single Creation, at any time He Wishes. When we, as servants of the Creator, say 'Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem', we affirm the reality of things... ie that it is ONLY by and through the Mercy of Allah, do things occur, including quenching your thirst with a cup of cold water. And by our affirming this with faith in our reciting the Basmala, Allah then sends His Baraka (Blessings) upon the acts we do. Note this well...

    Imagination As Light.

As-Salaam alaikum, In the Hadith, we find it where the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam said: "Worship Allah as though you see Him..." and "Allah is the Qibla of the person who is praying"-- ie imagine Him in your direction of prayer and be attentive to Him, so that you are fully mindful of Him and humble before Him. And always observe the appropriate courtesy with Him while you are praying, as if you do not do this, you are being discourteous and inconsiderate. Had the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, not known that there is within you a reality called IMAGINATION that has an immense sway, he would not have said to us "worship Allah as though you see Him" with your physical vision. For indication of the intellect rule out this "as though" and the intellect holds, with its arguments, that any likeness (between Allah and created things) is impossible: vision can perceive nothing but the wall in front of the person praying!! Yet, the Prophet alaihis-Salaat Was-Salaam, called upon us to imagine that we are facing Allah (al-Haqq) in our direction of prayer; indeed it has been prescribed that we accept that, where Allah says: "So wherever you may turn, then there is the Face of Allah" (2:115)... the "face" (wajh) of something is its reality and individual essence. Indeed, imagination in this context is all-encompassing.

    His Heart Never Sleeps.

As-Salaam alaikum, You must have read it in the Hadith where the Noble Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-- "My eyes sleep, but my heart never sleeps." His heart never sleeps! His heart is always connected to his Lord.... he is always in ascension. None can know the level attained in Ascension. Even Jibreel, alaihis-Salaam, was not able to know it, because he said [on the night of the 'Isra wal Mi'eraj] " I cannot move beyond my level", when the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, asked him to continue with him. "If I go further, I will be burnt", Jibreel said. Sufi Masters say that Jibreel, alaihis-Salaam, should have moved forward with the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, even if he was going to be burnt. As the Prophet said to Jibreel, "I am going to move higher even if I am going to be burnt." He was ready to sacrifice himself to obtain that Light for his Community (Ummah), saying: ' have no concern for myself'....therefore he moved forward, constantly progressing, traveling to that level, closer and closer to his Lord...Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam.

    The Day Of Resurrection.

As-Salaam alaykum, In Ayat 87 of Surat Nisa'i of the Holy Qur'an (4:87), Allah, Azzah Wa-Jallah, says:-- "NONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE WORSHIPED BUT HE. SURELY, HE WILL GATHER YOU TOGETHER ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION ABOUT WHICH THERE IS NO DOUBT." Indeed, belief in the Final Day is one of the 6 pillars upon which Imaan (faith) is built. Imagination As Light.

Assalam alaikum, In the Hadith, we learn that the Prophet, peace be uon him, said:- "Worship Allah as though you see Him.." and "Allah is the qibla of the person who is praying"- ie imagine Him in your direction of prayer and be attentive to Him, so that you are fully mindful of Him and be attentive to Him, so that you are fully mindful of Him and humble before Him. Purifying Our Heart.

Assalam alykum, You are aware that the heart is a repository of knowledge and a vessel sensitive to deeds of the body. And in the Holy Qur'an, we are told that the day of Judgement is:- "..a day in which neither wealth nor childeren shall be of any benefit [to anyone], except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart". (Surat Shu'ara, Ayat 88-89) In view of this, we should be in the look out for the signs, symptons and cures of spiritual diseases of the Heart.. so that we purify our heart accordingly. For that, find attached herewith Hamza Yusuf's translation of Imam Mawlud's 'Matharat al-Qulub'... a nice piece of work on this subject. Find the time to examine it.
