ASALATU WASALAMU ALAYKA YA RASULLALLAH Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam

Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha and her Fear of Amighty Allah

Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha and her fear of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.

Abdullah `bin -Zubair Radi Allahu anhu was Sayyedah Aisha`s Radi Allahu anhanephew. He was very dear to her, as she had brought him up. But he did not like her spending so much in charity, as she herself lived in poverty and want. He mentioned this to somebody and said:

"I must stop my Aunt form doing that."

She learnt about this and was so much displeased that she swore not to speak to Abdullah Radi Allahu anhu for the rest of her life.

Abdullah `bin- Zubair Radi Allahu anhuwas very much shocked by her oath. He pleaded many people to speak to her for him, but Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha told them;

" I have taken an oath and I am not prepaid to violate it."

Abdullah -Bin -Zubair Radi Allahu anhu, in the end took two persons from the family of our beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallammother (May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala be Pleased with her) to her house to intercede for him.

Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha allowed the persons to enter the house and to speak to her from behind the curtain.

Ibn Zubair Radi Allahu anhu also stealthily got in with these persons. When these persons started talking, he could not control himself and crossed the curtain and clung with his aunt crying and entreating her for pardon.

The 2 persons also interceded and reminded her of the beloved Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam forbidding a Muslim from forswearing speech with another Muslim.

When she was reminded of this beautiful Hadith , Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha got so frightened of Almighty Allahs displeasure and the result thereof; She began to weep bitterly .

She then forgave Zubair Radi Allahu anhuand began to speak with her nephew. She then liberated slave after slave in expiation of her oath, till 40 slaves had been free by her. Even later on, whenever she thought of the violation of her oath she wept so much that her shawl would become wet with her tears.

How much do we worry about the oaths we take from morning till evening? This is for everyone to examine ones self and answer. Come and see the people who had real reverence for Allah and His Name. How deeply did they feel when they were unable to fulfil an oath? Here we see Sayyedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha weeping so much whenever she remembered that incident about the violation of her oath.

Once Aisha Radi Allahu anha recieved a gift of 2 bags containing one Lakh (100.000) Dirhams. She started distributing these among the poor, till by the evening not a single dirham was left with her. She was fasting that day. her maid servant brought her a loaf of bread and kept one olive oil for iftar, and remarked,

" I wish we had kept one dirham for ourselves to get some meat for Iftaar."

Sayedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha said:

" Do not be sorry now. If you had told me at that time i would have perhaps spared one Dirham."

Gifts of these nature were often received by Aisha Radi Allahu anha from Amir Muawiah, Abdullah-bin- Zubair Radi Allahu anhu and others, for that was the time of ease and plenty for the Muslims as territory after territory fell in their hands. In spite of this abundance she distributes 1, 00,000 Dirhams to the poor, but she does not remember to get some meat/bread for her own Iftar. In our own atmosphere today, such stories seem to be impossible but, to the people, who have understood the Sahabah's Radi Allahu anhu frame of mind, hundreds of such incidents are quite credible. There are many stories of this nature reported about Sayedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha.

Once she was fasting and had nothing for her Iftaar except 1 piece of bread. A poor man came and begged for some food. She asked her maid to give him that piece of bread.

The maid said:

" If I give him that piece of bread, there will be nothing left for your Iftar."

Hadrat Aisha Radi Allahu anha said:

" Never Mind. let him have the piece."

Once she killed a snake. She saw a vision in her dream, saying:

" Aisha Radi Allahu anha you killed a Muslim"

Hadrat Aisha Radi Allahu anha replied:

" How could you be a Muslim come into the house of the Beloved Prophet's Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam widow?"

The vision rejoined:

" But he had come in Purdah".(disguise)

She abruptly got up from her sleep and at once spent 12,000 dirhams in Sadqah, which was the blood money fixed for a Muslim killed by a mistake.

Urwah Radi Allahu anhu says:

" I once saw Sayedah Aisha Radi Allahu anha spending 70,000 Dirhams in charity, while she herself was wearing a dress with patches."

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha) was the beloved daughter of Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu anha). her mother was Sayyidah Umme Rooman whose line of decendent joins with that of the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam). She was born nearly seven years before the migration in the family which had already come up into the fold of Islam, in Shawwal ul Mukarram.

Hence, she was brought up in a strictly Islamic enviroment which had sewn the seed of love fo Allah (Subahnah Wa Ta'ala) and His Prophet Muhammad (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) in her mind right from infancy.

She had an excellent memory.

One day as a child , Sayyidah Aisha Siddique (Radi Allahu anha) was playing with a horse with wings.

Our Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) walked by and said,

" Aisha! Horses have no wings."

She (Radi Allahu anha) replied:

" The horse of Hadrat Suleman (Alaihis Salaam) has wings."

On hearing this quick reply, Our Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) was pleased and he smiled.

Marriage with the Blessing of the Worlds.

This was a matter of great pleasure for Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu anhu) he at once expressed consent.

Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha), then still a pre-pubescent virgin, was betrothed by her father but she did not join the August home of the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) until her maturity.

Her departure from her parents took place in Madina at the age of nine.

On the morning of her marriage Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) was taken to be washed and dressed in fine clothes. Sayyidah Umme Rooman, her mother, then took her to a room where some women of the Ansaar had been anxiously waiting for the arrival of the bride.

The Moment Hadrat Aisha arrived they prayed:

"May your arrival be full of Blessings and Bounties and may it august well". (Bukhari)

The Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam) received the Prophecy of her Nikaah in his dream. In the dream he saw someone present him with something wrapped in silky cloth and say:

"This is for you"

The Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) unwrapped it and it was a picture of Sayyidah Aisha Siddique (Radi Allahu anha).

Their relationship was tender, friendly and loving. She was very close to the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) and would also take great pride in her position as the daughter of the first Caliph of Islam Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu anhu) who also recited the Nikaah.

This marriage stood in the history of Islam.

It further reinforced the ties between the Prophet Muhammad (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam) and his devoted friend who always stood by him in hours of distress and who sacrificed his all for the cause of Islam.

Secondly , by this marriage, a lady of rare qualities of head and heart, got the privilege of enjoying the blessed company of the Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi wasallam),at an impressionable age and thus got an opportunity to penetrate into the innermost recesses of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi wasallam).

Under the umbrella of the Blessings of the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi wasallam), she enhanced her potentialities and scintillated her taste.

Even a cursory glance at the life of this eminent lady clearly endorses the fact that her marriage with the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam) was a source of immense good not only to herself but also to the world of Islam at large.

She came into direct contact with the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) when her sensibilities were just in nascent stage.

It was the August Personality of the Last Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala alaihi wasalllam) which nurtured and groomed them properly and directed their growth to the right channels.

Incident of Ifk. The Noble Quran favoring her.

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiquah (Radi Allahu anha) accompanied the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam) in the Battle of Banu Mustalaq.

They traveled in a caravan. She had to answer a call of nature so they stopped the caravan. On her return she lost her necklace and took some time in finding it. When she returned, the caravan had set off. She became very worried and lay down covering herself with a sheet.

Sayyidonah Safwaan Bin Mu'attal (Radi Allahu anhu) stayed behind in case of an emergency. He recognized her, seated her on his camel and caught up with the caravan by noon.Chief of hypocrites , Abdullaah Bin Ubayy Bin Saluul, became aware of this incident and blamed her, and fabricated a story to impose a calumny on her character. As he and other always remained green with grudge and malice, on seeing the advancement and promotion of Islam. Their hearts ached to watch a tender and delicate sapling of Islam turning into a huge and mighty tree.

As the result of these accusations , Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha), suffered from deep shock and fell ill.

Allah Subhanah Wa ta'ala revealed verses in chapter Nuur ( LIGHT) to clarify her character, in her favor which exposed all the ruses and wiles of hypocrites. The Testimony of Allah Almighty, endorsed the chastity and clean character and raised her fame.

Daughter Of the First Caliph

One other excellences is that she is the daughter of Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu anhu), the intimate friend of the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi Wasallam).

Hadrat Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu Ta'ala anhu) paid ransom to bring Sayyidona Bilal (Radi Allahu anha),Sayyidonaaa Amir Bin Tahira and five other Muslims out of the shackles of slavery.

He was with the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) in the cave in the preceding night of migration. He was also declared the companion of the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasalllam) in the Noble Quran.

He was also appointed successor for leading Prayers before the death of the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam), and was the first Caliph.

He also passed the commandment to set up the Noble Quran as a n integrated whole.

An Intellectual Scholar

In interpreting the religious issues and as a jurist of Sunnah, she stands at the forefront.

Imam Zuhri , a leading jurist says:

"Hadrat Aisha was the most learned person among the people , senior and learned companions used to consult her."

Musa Ibn-e-Talhah says:

"I did never see any one more eloquent than Aisha."

(Trimidhi, vol: 2, P: 228), Hakim, Vol: 4)

Hadrat Abu Musa Ashari (Radi allahu anhu) says:

"We faced no difficulty whose solution was not with Aisha."

(Trimidhi, Vol: ", P: 228)

Imam Zuhri again says:

"If the Knowledge of all men and the wives of the Prophet (Sallall Allahu Ta'ala Alaihi wasallam) was put together, the knowledge of Aisha would exceed all of them)".

Thousands of Hadith's have been reported by her.

She would convey decision on religious matters even during the day of the first 3 Caliphs.

About her intelligence and good judgment, Nabia Abbat, an American writer and teacher at the University of Chicago says:

"She stands shoulder to shoulder with eminent jurist of her time like Hadrat Abu Huraira, Hadrat ibne-e-Umer and Hadrat Ibne-e-Abbas.Her memory was Excellent and she had memorized several thousand traditions."

In Islamic jurisprudence, the distinguished jurist and theologians of Islam, like Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Bukhari also followed the principles laid down by Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha).

Incident of Iilaa.

The food was fixed for the wives of the Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam). They had only small amounts of food. One time there was an increase in the money and the wives wanted an increase in the amount of food.

Sayyidonaa Siddique Akbar (Radi Allahu anhu) stopped his daughter Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha) and Umar Faruuq (Radi Allahu anhu) stopped his daughter Sayyidah Hafsah (Radi Allahu anha) from this increase because they thought this would upset the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam).

One day when out riding on a horse Our Beloved Prophet Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) fell off the horse and injured one side of his body.

He Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) stayed on the second floor near Sayyidah Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) room and promised to not visit his wives for a month while he was healing.

The hypocrites spread a rumour that the Beloved Prophet divorced his wives.

Sayyidonaa Umar (Radi Allahu anha) heard the rumour and asked the Prophet Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam). Our Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Tala said it was not true, And Hadrat Umar informed the wives this , who were very pleased to hear this.

After 29 days The Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) visited Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam), Hadrat Aisha was pleased and surprised to see him and said:

You promised me you would not strain yourself for a month but it has only been 29 days

The Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) smiled and said:

Sometimes there are only 29 days in the month.

After the incident of Iilaaa, one day the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam) went to Aisha (Radi Allahu Taala anha) and said:

I am going to ask you a question, tell me your answer after discussing it with your Parents.

She (Radi Allahu anha) said

Ya Rasulallah! What is the matter?

Our Beloved Prophet recited the verses of Ah-Zaab from the Quran

O Prophet (Muhammad Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam)! Say to your wives

If you desire the life of this world, and its glitter, then come! I will make a provision for you and set you free in a handsome manner.

But if you desire Allah and His Messenger, and the home of the Hereafter, then verily, Allah has prepared for the Al-Muhsinat (good-doers) amongst you an enormous reward.

(Al-Ahzab 33: 28-29)

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha) replied:

There is no need to consult this matter with my parents. I choose Allah and his Messenger.

The other wives gave the same reply.

Her Excellences.

Many Hadith exhibit the exalted position of Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) among other Muslim ladies. Some of them are as under

The Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) says

You had a dream shown to me for 3 successive nights in dream. An angel brought you (your photo) wrapped in a piece of white silk and said

It is your wife. I exposed your face and there you were. Then I said, If this dream is from Allah, He will realize it.

(Bukhari, Muslim)

Hence, she is the one whose marriage was suggested, decided and realised by Allah (Subhanah WA Taala) Himself.

Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) herself reports that the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) says:

O Aisha! This is Jibrail who greets you. She replied Salutation and Mercy of Allah be upon Him

(Bukhari, Muslim)

Another Hadith in the same context is as under:

Aisha has such superiority over women as sareed (A kind of food) has over other foods.

(Bukhari, Muslim)

Another Hadith confirms her prestigious status.

Amr Bin Aas said:

I submitted O Allahs Messenger! Who amongst all the people is the dearest to you?

He said (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) said Aisha.

I asked out of men? He sai; Her father.

(Tirmidhi)

Migration.

Allah (Subhanah Wa Taala) has raised the status of those companions of the Beloved prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) who migrated from Mecca to Madina over those who were not blessed with this bounty.

Allah Taala Says:

And those who left their homes and hearths in the way of Allah being oppressed, we shall surly give them good place in the world. And undoubtedly, the reward of the hereafter is much greater: any how people would have known.

(An-Nahl, 14:41 Kanzul Iman)

When Hadrat Muhammad (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) migrated from Mecca to Madina, Hadrat Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu anhu) leaving his family on the mercy of the enemies accompanied the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam).

When peace regained in Madina and dust also settled. Hadrat Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu anhu) sent Hadrat Abdullah to bring Umm-e-Rooman, Hadrat Asma and Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) to Madina.

Hence these people were also included on the list of the immigrants

Audacity & Valour.

Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) was equally renowned for her generosity.

Hadrat Urwa bin Zubair reports that once she got seventy thousand dirhams.

She gave the entire amount in charity right in front of him and left nothing with her.

Hadrat Abdullah bin Zubair, her nephew, sent one-lakh dirhams to her, which she gave out in the way of Allah (Subhanah Wa Taala) within a day.

She was observing fast that day. At night, the housemaid served her leaf and submitted that it would have been better if you had brought some meat out of that amount to finish up with the fast. At this Sayyidah Aisha (Radi Allahu Anha) said: You might have reminded me about it then.

(Mustadrak-e-Hakim, vol: 4)

It is in Moatta Imam Malik that once Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) was with fast and there was nothing at home to eat besides a loaf of bread. Meanwhile, a beggar woman called out for alms.

She directed her maid to give the beggar woman the loaf. The maid submitted:

With which thing will you finish up with your fast?

The mother of the believers replied:

First give it to her

In the evening, some one sent some mutton as a gift. Then Sayyidah said to her maid,

Look! Allah has sent something than a loaf of bread.

Mutual Love

Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) loved the Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) up to such a level that she always felt like a fish out of water in the absence of the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam).

Following incidence from her life, obviously, throws light on this aspect:

In a journey Sayyidah Aisha and Hadrat Hafsah (Radi Allahu anha) accompanied the Blessed Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam), on the way Sayyidah Hafsah and Sayyidah Aisha exchanged their camels.

At night, the Beloved prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi wasallam) went towards Sayyidah Aishas camel which Sayyidah Hafsah was riding then, Sayyidah Aisha could not bear the separation.

When they reached the terminal, Hadrat Aisha got down from the camel and putting her foot on the grass she said:

O my Lord! Send any scorpion or serpent to bite me up. And he is thy Prophet. I cannot say anything about him.

(Muslim)

Another incidence testifies to this fact that all the reverend wives of the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) cherished him to an extreme sense. Even all temptations, fascinations, charms, allurements of this material world could not debar their tender feelings for the Prophet Muhammad (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam)

Departure from this world, of the Prophet Muhammad (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam)

In the last 8 days of his life he stayed with Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu Anha). This distinguished lady who also enjoyed the Status, that when the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam), abandoned this world his Sacred Head was in her lap when he passed away.

The Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam) was buried in the house of Sayyidah Aisha Siddique (Radi Allahu anha).

She herself narrates:

I would enter my house where the Messenger (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) of Allah was buried without observing my veil thinking that here are my Husband and father, but when Hadrat Umar (Radi Allahu anhu) was buried beside them, by Allah, then, to my shame from Umar, I would enter covering my head properly.

(Mishkat)

My dear Sisters you must ponder upon this episode in the life of Sayyidah Aisha (Radi Allahu anha).

She was 18 years old when the Beloved Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam) departed this world. Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) lived for 48 years after his departure. She (Radi Allahu anha) reported 2210 sayings of the Prophet (Sallall Allahu taala Alaihi Wasallam). The company of the Prophet (Sallall Allahu Taala Alaihi Wasallam) and her wisdom gave her an ocean of knowledge. Whenever the companions had any confusion, she solved it.

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha0, was very generous, hospitable and kind to the poor.

She gave all her wealth to the poor in the name of Almighty Allah Azzawajal.

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha), was fond of worshipping. She recited the Noble Quraan and offered Nawafil in abundance, she never left the prayers Tahajud and Chaast, and she kept all her fast.

She had a tent near mount Hiraa and Subair, from here she managed her school, and the believers came to her and learned religious doctrines.

Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha), passed away on the 17th of Ramadan -ul- Mubarak in 58 Ah.Hadrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu anhu) led her Janaazah Prayer. (Funeral) Many people attended her Janaazah, and the Beloved of Almighty Allah was buried in Jannat-ul-Baqi (requested by her) where she is enjoying deep sleep in peace and tranquillity.

It is said by Scholars that after Sayyidah Khadijah (Radi Allahu anha) Hadrat Aisha (Radi Allahu anha) held the second highest rank amongst women.

This concludes the life of Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah (Radi Allahu anha) A very prestigious and distinguished lady who from an very early age shone in character and Status. Her ocean of knowledge cannot be compared to any other woman past or present in this world.
